BRUGES - A revolt took place in the detention center for immigrants in
Bruges. A prisoner wounded himself and after the brutal intervention of
the guard, other prisoners started to rebel. They barricades the "living
space", broke windows and smashed the interior. Several fires were lit
in the centre. Police intervened and managed after a while to break open
the barricaded part of the center. Two hours after the beginning of the
revolt, police managed to restore order.
Several prisoners were put in isolation. Some will be transferred to other centers.
A few days later, about 60 activistes blocked the center by chaining themselves to the gates.
